9 Illusions Created by “Reality” Property Shows Which Simply Aren’t True

It’s probably not all that shocking to you to discover that “reality” property shows are pretty far off from actual reality. But how they’re different from reality may surprise you…
1. Buyers always look at three properties before making a decision
In reality, there’s no set number of homes you will need to see before making a decision. Some people find the perfect home right away, while others may need to look at MANY before making a decision on one to put in an offer for.
2. Decisions are made after a quick conversation
While there are some people who can probably make big decisions after a few minutes of talk, but for most people, it takes alot more time and consideration before deciding on which home to buy.
3. Most couples in their 20’s and 30’s are able to buy expensive properties
These couples in their 20’s and 30’s that you see on TV are the exception to the rule. Most younger people begin with starter homes, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. As bad as most twenty or thirty something’s want a fabulous home, it’s normally not in their cards just.
4. Sellers always get offers after only having one open house
Really? One open house does not always guarantee an offer, though it can help create interest in your home. If you watch enough r“reality” property shows, though, you might think this is how it always happns.
5. Every property is staged perfectly
Staging is a little more uncommon in our area, but it’s usually dependent on the seller’s budget, and the particulars of that property. In fact, some homes some completely empty.
6. Renovations are super fast, easy, and inexpensive
TV makes it look like a full renovation can happen in less than a day. In reality, they can be time consuming, complicated, and fairly expensive. With that being said, in many cases they can be well worth it in the end.
7. After your offer has been accepted, it’s smooth sailing all the way through closing
There is plenty of work to be done after you have had an accepted offer. There will be the financing, inspections, title search, and always be prepared for something that might go awry.
8. The weather always perfect during open house
As much as we would love that to be the case… we can’t control the weather. If it happens to rain or snow during an open house, the show must go on.
9. Real estate agents don’t have to do much
Agents on “reality” property shows look like all they do is show houses and surprise clients with good news. There is SO much more they have to handle that you don’t get to see in front of the screens that lead to you to your closing. Give us a call.
