REALTORS ROCK

Installation         I Just got back from a great week at Iowa Association of REALTORS annual convention in Coralville.  4 days of continuing education classes, committee meetings, and networking with REALTOR friends from across the state.  In 2011, I was asked to run for secretary/treasurer of our local Board of REALTORS.  I had no idea what that meant as I thought I was just here to sell real estate.  Little did I know that being a REALTOR is a lot more than selling houses!    I quickly learned that a REALTOR is very different that just another real estate agent!  We have a level of professionalism and Code of Ethics that non REALTORS don’t have.  After serving as President of my local board in 2013 and 2014, I was asked to run for one of 8 Regional Vice Presidents for the State Association.  Last week I was installed for my second year as Region 1 RVP for the Iowa Association of REALTORS.  Many of you probably think REALTORS are just out here to make a quick sale.   How many of you know how much we actually give back to our clients and communities.  We fight for your rights by going to our state and national capitals each year to talk to our legislators about issues affecting home ownership.  Did you know some legislators want to get rid of the mortgage interest deduction?  How about making radon testing mandatory at time of transfer?  Patent Trolls????Flood insurance??? We fought for those too!  REALTORS also give back to their communities.  We had an furniture build off in Coralville where there were 6 teams of people who built IKEA furniture and then donated it to shelters in the Iowa City Area.  The 3 winning teams also got money to donate to their favorite local charity, one was a local backpack program, on was the Boys and Girls Club and the other was Big Brothers, Big Sisters.  The REALTOR foundation gave money to help flood victims in Northeast Iowa.  I can go on and on about what REALTORS do besides sell real estate so if you are looking for someone who cares and gives back to YOU…..Call ME!program
