With so many different values on a house, how do you know what its worth?

Zillow joke2If you are thinking of buying or selling a home, I know you have spent many hours trying to figure out the best value of that home.  The county assessor says it is assessed at $353,000.  Zillow’s  Zestimate is $496,000.  Your REALTOR did a market analysis and said its worth $399,000.  Who do you believe?

Your REALTOR should be the one you listen too.  Hopefully they have done their research and have valued your property with similar properties that have sold in the area in the past 6 months.  This gives you a better idea of how the market is right now and what things are selling for right now.  Zillow doesn’t always know specifics about your property and they definitely don’t understand Okoboji lakefront property!  The county assessor probably hasn’t been in your home or any of the neighboring homes so see amenities and condition, and people contest their assessments every couple of years to keep their taxes down so that isn’t a reliable source either.

These are good ways to get an idea on value but listen to the professionals when making your decision!
