Great week in DC fighting for property rights for homeowners

National Association of REALTORS building in Washington DC

As Regional Vice President for the Iowa Association of REALTORS, and as a member of the National Association of REALTORS Resort and Second Home Real Estate Committee, I attended the NAR Legislative meetings in Washington DC this past Monday through Thursday.  I attended various meetings and round table discussions with other REALTORS from across the US and Canada and met with our state legislators regarding issues that involve homeownership. There were over 70 REALTORS from Iowa that travelled to DC which is very impressive for the size of our state!

A few of the biggest issues right now in the legislature that affect everyone but especially homeowners and buyers in DCthe lakes area, are those regarding flood insurance and flood plains, FHA condo rules with regards to obtaining financing, and the mortgage interest deduction.

I was also interested to hear that some issues affecting us as a resort and second home community, are also affecting resort areas in Arizona, Nevada, California, Florida, and all over the US.  Again the flood insurance issue, short term rental issue, and tax reform issues regarding elimination of mortgage interest and condo financing affect everyone!

I had an informative week which ended with a tour of Arlington Cemetery and some of the other sights of DC.  I am now home and ready to get back to business.  ITS A GREAT TIME TO BUY AND SELL IN OKOBOJI!
